EPA’s Eye in the Sky: The Saudi Arabia desert

A view of a camel enclosure between Haradh and Shubaytah, in Saudi Arabia.

Camels, also called ships of the desert, are part of a long cultural tradition in the Arab peninsula.

The Bedouins have a very special relation to them, they use them to travel across the desert, but they are also praised for their milk, reputed to be healthy and available outside most Saudi cities, for urban people to have a taste of freshly camel milk usually on days off. Others are groomed for grand races, or for their meat.
