The Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sarraj said the human rights violations in Libya are leading to deteriorating of humanitarian conditions, displaying at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) a banner of photos for HoR member Siham Sergiwa, Military College cadets and prisoners executed by Mahmoud Al-Werfalli.
Al-Sarraj added in his address to the UNHRC that 30 cadets were killed in the airstrike on Tripoli Military College and 50 people were killed in airstrikes on Tajoura migrants’ center, adding that in addition to the crimes, Libyans in eastern region are deprived of the right to free speech, alluding to the kidnapping of House of Representatives member Siham Sergiwa who was taken from her house in Benghazi and the crimes of Al-Werfalli under the command of Khalifa Haftar.
Lawmakers based in areas of eastern Libya controlled by military commander Khalifa Haftar said on Monday they would not participate for now in peace talks with politicians allied to the internationally recognised government.
UNSMIL said in a statement Monday that a second round of the 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission (JMC) talks concluded on February 23 at the Palace of Nations in Geneva in the presence of UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame.
