All 65 migrants on board the NGO rescue ship Alan Kurdi are to be brought to Malta for distribution in the EU after talks between Malta, Germany and the European Commission.

The Times reports that Prime Minister Joseph Muscat handled the talks and later said on twitter that none of the migrants will stay in Malta.

The ship arrived off Malta on Sunday afternoon after having been refused permission to enter Italian waters off Lampedusa.

The Times reports that the Alan Kurdi, operated by the German Charity Sea Eye, changed course for Malta late on Saturday after being refused permission to enter Italian waters off Lampedusa. It neared Malta early on Sunday afternoon but the AFM said it does not have permission to enter Maltese waters.

ANSA, earlier said that Malta has refused entry to the Alan Kurdi.

Meanwhile, Malta announced that it would be providing rescue to 58 persons, who are expected in Malta around 1515h.
