Beatles icon Ringo Starr, 84, sparks health fears as he suddenly cancels US tour

Ringo Starr has cut his 2024 autumn US tour short due to illness.

The former Beatles drummer was set to perform at TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia on Tuesday (September 24) and at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Wednesday (September 25).

However, a representative announced online that Ringo had caught a cold, and after consulting a doctor, he was advised to cancel the remaining shows to rest. Ticket holders will be notified of the cancellations via email and will receive refunds at their point of purchase. The statement ended with, “As always, Ringo and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them soon.”

Starr and his band began their tour on September 7 in San Diego, completing 10 shows before his illness. Just days before, he had shared a post on social media thanking fans for their support, writing, “Just want to thank all the great audiences so far – I love you all. Peace & love from Ringo and the boys.”

In April, Starr released his new EP Crooked Boy in collaboration with The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi. Originally an exclusive for Record Store Day, the four-track EP later became available for streaming. Co-written with Linda Perry, who Starr had previously worked with, the EP features tracks like “Gonna Need Someone,” a rocker Starr specifically requested. “I love what Linda did… Nick Valensi plays guitars on it—and on the whole EP—and he is great,” Starr said.

Additionally, Starr is still working on a full country project with T Bone Burnett. Over the summer, he shared with Fox News that one song Burnett wrote for him was “absolutely one of the most beautiful country songs I ever heard,” inspiring Starr to pursue a country EP.

Meanwhile, Starr recently expressed his approval of the newly restored Let It Be documentary, despite having once commented that there wasn’t “a lot of joy” in the original version.
