UPDATE: Travelling corridor between Malta and Belgium established – First flights expected on July 16th

UPDATE Monday July 13th – 1420h : Travelling between Malta and Belgium is expected to resume as of 16th July, following the inclusion of Belgium on the amended ‘travelling list’ from Malta. The updated list of countries where travelling is allowed and travel corridors have been established, was published by the Government of Malta and enacted through a Legal Notice.

Earlier last week, the Belgian government has placed Malta on its “red zone” list, where travel was not recommended, mainly due to the fact that the Mediterranean island had not included Belgium as a country where travelling should take place.

The other countries, which the Belgian government included in the red zone where Spain, Portugal, Finland, Ireland and Norway.

Though the issues were different, the Belgian government said that travelling to these countries for non-essential purposes was not allowed.

The inclusion of countries in such lists is based on reciprocity.

The Belgian foreign affairs department has said that quarantine is mandatory for anyone returning from these locations. The regularly updated advice is based on currently available information, according to the Belgian government’s website.

As stated earlier the Maltese government, will lift the mandatory quarantine from those travelling from Belgium on 15th July as per legal notice 290.20. Until then, anyone travelling from Belgium will have to remain in a mandatory quarantine.
