Bomb found underneath police officer’s car in Belfast

A bomb was found underneath a police officer’s car in Belfast in Northern Ireland.

Police said that said the bomb was “clearly intended to kill the police officer”, adding that it was “very fortunate” that it had been detected early.

A police spokesman said it was believed that “violent dissident republicans” were responsible, and called the incident an “attack on our democracy”.

He added: “Anyone who places an explosive device under a car in a built up area cares little about our communities.

A nearby golf club, which was holding a tournament at the time, was evacuated after the object was

Up to 70 people were at the club for a tournament at the time of the incident.
