Today more than ever, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic which has swept over the world, we hear heart-warming stories every day about regular people who carry out heroic deeds. Besides the doctors and medical staff braving the frontline to help those who have been infected by the virus, and all the people whose work makes it impossible for them to stay in the safety of their homes, we find people who come up with innovative ways of making the world a better place.
This is the story of a Canadian boy scout, Quinn Callander who recently heard a request for help from his local hospital, and managed to come up with an excellent solution to help relieve the discomfort which medical workers face from wearing protective masks every day.
Quinn decided to put his 3D printing skills to the test and created an “ear guard” which aims to relieve the tension caused by the elastic which holds medical masks in place. He created a simple, yet brilliant solution – ear guards which prevent the security straps from rubbing on their ears all day.
After designing the inventive guard, Quinn proceeded to print these on his 3D printer and donate them to his local hospital, as well as making the design free for others to use. His mother Heather wrote on Facebook, “Quinn answered a request from the local hospitals for help with creating “ear guards” to help take the pressure off health care workers’ ears from wearing masks all day. He got busy on his 3D printer and has been turning out dozens of ear guards to donate. He’s not only printed dozens of these ‘ear guards” to donate but has also made the file he’s using public.”
