Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz Reuniting for Fourth ‘Mummy’ Movie
3032 Mins Read
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to reunite on screen for a new chapter in The Mummy franchise, with directing duties to be handled by filmmaking duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, known collectively as Radio Silence. The pair, recognised for their work on Ready or Not (2019) and the recent revival of the Scream series, are expected to helm what will be the fourth entry in the long-running action-adventure series. Universal, the studio behind the franchise, declined to comment on the development.
Fraser first led The Mummy in 1999 alongside Weisz, with the film becoming a substantial box office success and establishing Fraser as a leading action star. He returned for two sequels, although Weisz only appeared in the first. An attempt to reboot the property in 2017 with Tom Cruise failed to resonate commercially and did not achieve the studio’s ambition of launching a shared “Dark Universe” built around its classic monster catalogue.
Fraser, who stepped back from Hollywood for several years due to personal and health challenges, experienced a career resurgence with The Whale (2022), a performance that earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. At the time, he indicated he would consider returning to the role of Rick O’Connell if an approach was made with a compelling creative direction. He has also remarked on why earlier revival efforts struggled, arguing that the franchise’s signature appeal lay in its sense of adventure and levity rather than straightforward horror.
Further details, including casting beyond the leading duo, production schedules, and release timelines, have yet to be confirmed.
