Britain’s salad vegetable shortage to last 2-4 weeks -minister

LONDON, Feb 23 (Reuters) – Britain should expect to endure shortages of salad vegetables, including tomatoes, for a further two to four weeks, Environment, Food and Rural Affairs minister Therese Coffey said on Thursday.

Coffey told parliament she expected industry to be able to mitigate supply problems caused by disrupted harvests in southern Europe and north Africa by utilising alternative markets.

“The United Kingdom has a highly resilient food supply chain as demonstrated throughout the COVID-19 response and is well equipped to deal with situations with potential to cause disruption,” she said.
