Catania airport will remain closed for the third consecutive day on Monday because of volcanic ash being spewed out by Mount Etna, SAC, the company that runs the airport, said.
The airport is frequently affected by volcanic activity and has been hit especially hard this year.
In August Civil Protection Minister Nello Musumeci said Catania airport is in the wrong place, adding that he tried unsuccessfully to get the airport moved when he was the president of the province of Catania between 1994 and 2003.
