Coronavirus death toll in Italy reaches 21 as total number of confirmed cases reaches 888

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Italy rose on Friday to 888 from 650 the day before, a civil protection official said.

Of the 888 cases, 21 people have died and 46 have recovered, he added, clarifying previous comments which put the total cases at 821, excluding those who had died or recovered.

ANSA reports that Lombardy Governor Attilio Fontana said Friday the coronavirus emergency intensified sharply in Lodi near Milan.

21 people have died with but not necessarily because of the coronavirus in Italy, four more than Thursday, and 821
people now have the virus, emergency commissioner Angelo Borrelli said Friday.
He said the new deaths were three over-80s and one over-70, and the Higher Health Institute would determine whether they died due to the virus.
