Corporate Cybersecurity Facing Increasing Pressures

A dramatic escalation in the scale and sophistication of global cyber threats has been revealed recently by Microsoft, whose Threat Intelligence systems are now processing 84 trillion signals every day, up sharply from previous years. The company also reported that over 7,000 password attacks are attempted every second.

The figures, announced alongside a major update to Microsoft’s AI-driven Security Copilot, paint a stark picture of a digital threat landscape growing in both volume and complexity. Phishing remains a leading concern, with over 30 billion malicious emails detected in 2024 alone.

In response, Microsoft has launched a new set of autonomous AI agents to help organisations defend against these constant assaults. The updated Security Copilot now includes agents capable of triaging phishing attacks, detecting misconfigurations, and highlighting identity vulnerabilities. One standout addition is the Phishing Triage Agent in Microsoft Defender, which automatically filters alerts and flags credible threats for review.

“This is just the beginning,” said Alexander Stojanovic, Vice President of Microsoft Security AI Applied Research, emphasising the urgency of equipping defenders with tools that match the speed and scale of modern attacks.

The move reflects growing concern around AI misuse as well. Microsoft is expanding its security coverage to include AI systems such as Google VertexAI and models like Meta Llama and Gemini, while introducing tools to detect prompt injection attacks and prevent sensitive data leaks via AI platforms.
