Corporate Dispatch Europe Explained – agendaEurope – The Week Ahead

A quick glance at the main  forthcoming events in the European Union including EU Council, Commission and Parliament meetings and other EU-related conferences and events. Events for the week of 24 to 30 June.

Monday 24 June, President Jean-Claude Juncker receives the former EU Commission Presidents José Manuel Barroso, Romano Prodi, Jacques Santer and Pascal Lamy for an informal lunch and hosts the presentation of the book « La commission européenne 1986 – 2000: Histoire et mémoires d’une institution ».

European Commissioner for Environment Karmenu Vella will be in Budapest, Hungary to attend the Virtuous Circle Tour in Hungary and it will be focused on the crucial questions for the future of its circular economy.


Tuesday 25 June, President Jean-Claude Juncker receives Zuzana Čaputová, President of Slovakia.

The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini on this day deleivers a speech at the 15th anniversary celebrations of the European Defence Agency. Later she receives Mahmood Qureshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.

On this day,  the Federica Mogherini will also deliver a speech at the Academic Conference on Women, Peace & Security organised by the European External Action Service, in Brussels.

Commissioner Karmenu Vella opens Blue Bioeconomy Forum, in Brussels.  The Blue Bioeconomy Forum is an initiative funded by the European Commission. It brings together a partnership of industry, public authorities, academia and finance in order to strengthen Europe’s competitive position in the emerging blue bioeconomy.


Wednesday 26 June, the Environment Council meets. EU ministers will be invited to agree on a general approach on the regulation on water reuse. They will also adopt conclusions on chemicals, with the aim of moving ‘Towards a Sustainable Chemicals Policy Strategy of the Union’. The Council will also have an exchange of views on the Environmental Implementation Review.


Thursday 27 June, President Jean-Claude Juncker will be in Osaka, Japan were together with Mr Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, will meet Shinzō Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, for a working lunch.

Federica Mogherini chairs the EU-Morocco Association Council, in Brussels and later delivers a speech at the 14th Brussels Forum organised by the German Marshall Fund, in Brussels.

Commissioner Vella participates in the High-Level Conference on EU Chemicals 2030 Policy, in Brussels.

Later, Commissioner Vella meets Carolina Schmidt, President-designate of COP25 and Minister for the Environment of Chile, in Brussels and a further meeting scheduled with Abdulla Shahid, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Maldives.


Friday 28 June, President Jean-Claude Juncker attends the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan and has a meeting scheduled with Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, Prime Minister of Vietnam.

Federica Mogherini meets Mr Abdulla Shahid, Foreign Minister of the Maldives and later receives Mr Jim Jeffrey, Special Representative for Syria and for the Coalition to Defeat ISIS of the United States.
