As of Monday, the Transport Research Arena (TRA) is the biggest European research and innovation conference, bringing together experts from around the world. Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries travels to Übach-Palenberg, Germany to visit the PET-Recycling West GmbH facility. Also in Germany, but this time in Berlin, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini participates in a summit meeting with the Western Balkan leaders.
Tuesday 30 April is EU LIFE information and networking day. The European Commission is organising an information and networking day on the 2019 LIFE call for project proposals. The event is open to potential applicants presenting project proposals on green technology, nature protection, and climate action. Participants will be invited to a morning information session on the 2019 LIFE call, covering significant changes to the programme compared to previous years. The afternoon will be dedicated to networking with fellow participants to share experience, match with potential new partners, and meet representatives of the LIFE programme from the European Commission.
Thursday 2 May, in the framework of the EU-US Energy Council, in Brussels the 1st EU-US Energy Council B2B energy forum opens. This forum is designed as a ministerial-level event to bring together U.S. and European decision-makers from government as well as companies in the LNG sector. A key objective is to encourage business contacts and promote the further uptake of competitively priced US LNG in the EU. American and European businesses are poised to invest in significant transatlantic liquefied natural gas (LNG) opportunities spanning the entire supply chain including new infrastructure for upstream development, liquefaction, re-gasification, and pipeline distribution. In Brussels, the Coreper II meeting is held by the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (‘Permanent Representatives’) and will be discussing general affairs and external relations, economic and financial affairs, justice and home affairs and the preparation of the European Council work.
Friday 3 May, Federica Mogherini will be in Florence, Italy to deliver a speech at the State of the Union 2019 organised by the European University Institute.
Saturday 4 May, Europe Day is celebrated with Celebrate Europe Day at the European institutions in Brussels with the annual Open Day. This year the Open Day is about choosing your future. The European elections on 23-26 May are your chance to have a say on who makes big decisions that affect your daily life. President Juncker attends the funeral of His Royal Highness Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg, in the Cathedral of Luxembourg.
Sunday 5 May, Karmenu Vella visits Metz, France to represents the EU at the G7 Environment Ministers Meeting.
