Corporate Dispatch Europe Explained – The Week Ahead

A quick glance at the main forthcoming events in the European Union including EU Council, Commission and Parliament meetings and other EU-related conferences and events. Events for the week of 4-9 March 2019.

During the coming week, the European Commission, Events/Conf/Fairs, Business, taxation and competition, Justice and citizens’ rights will be organizing a Citizens’ dialogue in Valletta with Vice-President Jyrki Katainen.

Jyrki Katainen, European Commission Vice-President, in charge of jobs, growth, investment, and competitiveness, will discuss the future of Europe with citizens in Valletta, Malta.


On Wednesday 6 March the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, European Parliament, Other bodies and agencies, Events/Conf/Fairs, Employment and social rights will be organising “Promoting independent living and participation in society for people with disabilities” in the building of the European Parliament, Brussels.

The event will see the launch of 2 key pieces of research into independence and well-being for people with disabilities. The first will be a publication by EDF and ENIL on good practice around Europe for fostering independent living and autonomy, and preventing the institutionalisation of people with disabilities. The second publication will set out fresh research by Eurofound into the evolving levels of well-being of people with disabilities in the EU.

MEP Marian Harkin, the European Foundation for the improvement of living and working conditions (Eurofound), the European Disability Forum (EDF), and the European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) will hold an event on facilitating independent living of people with disabilities.


On Thursday 7 March, International Women’s Day 2019, MEPs and national MPs will gather for an inter-parliamentary meeting on “Women’s Power in Politics” organised by the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee. The event will include two panels, on ”Real power of women in politics and how to boost it” and ”Young women in politics”. There will be a keynote speech by Croatia’s President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic as well as closing remarks by EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini.


The Council in the coming days will be also looking to agree on the labelling of tyres and the drinking water directive, and debates e-evidence; the Commission holds conferences on the future of government 2030+, the Circular economy and Deep Tech innovation; Eurofound holds an event on facilitating independent living of people with disabilities; MEPs in committee vote on ending seasonal time changes, and the EU’s External Financing Instruments; and it’s International Women’s Day.
