Corporate Dispatch Malta Newspaper Review

Good morning,

These are the headlines from Malta’s Newspapers:

The Times reports that the police have investigated just under 100 cases related to child sexual abuse since 2017. Most of the cases involved possession and sharing of child pornography, but cases of child grooming were also investigated.

The Independent publishes information by the Home Affairs Ministry that there were 104 minors who arrived unaccompanied in Malta in 2018. The youngest was an 11-year-old boy and only 13 were girls.

L-Orizzont follows the case discovery of a dead man in Għajn Tuffieħa on Sunday. The paper says that police believe it may have been suicide since no signs of aggression were found and the man’s personal belongings were also in the area.

In-Nazzjon quotes Eurofund figures showing that Malta has the third-highest rate of people between 18-24 at risk of depression: 22 percent of the age group. The Nationalist Party said that mental health must be taken seriously.

The Independent says that the Planning Authority board will decide on an application to demolish and rebuilt the University of Malta track. Submitted plans include a new Institute of Physical Education and Sports, research labs, and underground parking.

L-Orizzont speaks to Parliamentary Secretary Julia Farrugia Portelli about challenges faced by qualified massage therapists. Farrugia Portelli says that the government is looking at different methods to fight illegalities and protect therapists.

The Sunday carries a story about asbestos pipes which have been left in a Naxxar site pending enforcement action for the past 10 years. The paper says the 1,000 square-meter area is walled up but still accessible.

In-Nazzjon follows the case of a 101-year-old resident at St Vincent de Paule who died after falling off a lifter. The paper says that her relatives and the police were not immediately informed of the incident.
