Corporate Dispatch Malta Newspaper Review

Good morning,

These are the headlines from Malta’s Newspapers:

The Independent reports that some 825 trees in several parts of the islands are expected to be uprooted ahead of projects by Infrastructure Malta. The agency said that it is, meanwhile, planting more than 1,000 saplings at Għadira s-Safra.

The Times leads with police data showing that more than 350 people reported missing in the last ten years have still not been found. Many of them are undocumented migrants thought to have left the country, but 69 are Maltese nationals.

L-Orizzont says that the Chamber of Commerce expressed satisfaction with the economic performance published in the government’s pre-budget document, but calls for changes in the rentals market, the construction industry, and anti-money laundering measures.

In-Nazzjon covers a press conference by the PN announcing celebrations to mark the 55th anniversary since independence. Secretary General Clyde Puli said the party will also discuss the future direction of the country.

The Independent says that the numbers of operators in the free school transport scheme increased to 250 since it was launched a year ago. The service was used by more than 11,600 students attending non-state public and private schools.

The Times quotes a report by the Energy and Water Agency which estimates that the country could save up to six billion litres of water annually if everyone kept to a recommended five-minute daily shower routine.

In-Nazzjon follows the postponement of a court case after the list of jury members was not duly published in the government gazette in time. The paper says the trial will now begin on Wednesday.

L-Orizzont follows the latest developments in Britain and says that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering calling a general election. Johnson held an unexpected cabinet session and is meeting Tory MPs one-to-one.
