In the latest on Brexit we read that EU’s position on Brexit remains unified.  US President Donald Trump and UK PM Boris Johnson are expected to hold talks during the G7 meetings in France. Nigerians dominate FBI’s massive bust of online fraudsters. In Russia, Russian floating nuclear power station sets sail – Activists call it ‘Chernobyl on Ice’. In the UK, Prince William and family take budget airline flight week after Prince Harry criticised for use of private jet.  Polls show that the Polish ruling Law and Justice party loses ground. We also read that the Danish Pm has constructive conversation with Trump after the Greenland debacle. Erdogan tells Putin that Syrian army attacks are causing humanitarian crisis and threaten Turkish security

Malta’s newspapers lead with the story on the disembarkation in Malta of 256 migrants aboard the Ocean Viking rescue ship, after two weeks stranded at sea. They will be then relocated to another six EU countries. We also read about an operation by authorities confiscating some 700 dead protected birds with a value running into the tens of thousands. The birds include eagles, vultures and ibises among others and are thought to have been smuggled from Egypt and Sudan.

Cottonera residents are being encouraged to voice their concerns about development plans proposed by the American University of Malta at a Planning Authority hearing in September. In another story victim of sexual abuse, now 38, who says he wants to ‘jolt’ policymakers into reviewing time-barring laws. The man describes how repeated sexual violence by his uncle in his teens has scarred him for life.
