These are the main stories from Malta’s newspaper front pages.
MaltaToday speaks to orthopaedic specialist Ray Gatt who said that traffic accidents are becoming an ‘epidemic’ in Malta. Gatt told the paper that the effects of road accidents have a devastating effect on people’s lives.
The Times reports that Infrastructure Malta has been ordered by the Environment and Resources Authority to reverse the widening of thoroughfares in Wied l-Isqof, Rabat, in a project to rebuild rural roads.
The Malta Independent says that more than 240 cases of illegal dumping have been reported since 2017. The environment watchdog said that no one has been prosecuted yet, but fines have been imposed.
The Times follows the compilation of evidence against Joseph Bonnici, accused of killing his mother and sister. An officer told court that the victims’ house appeared to be inhabited when they visited and that the suspect told him the two were scared.
The Malta Independent also follows the case and says that investigators grew suspicious when they noticed that the victims left their personal belongings including mobile phone and documents in the house before ‘leaving’.
MaltaToday reveals that the Prime Minister’s special envoy Alex Sciberras Trigona held talks with Russian deputy minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Grushko after Malta refused a request by Russia to enter its military airspace, this week.
L-Orizzont quotes the Prime Minister who said that the government will carry out a consultation process to implement the EU’s Work-Life Balance directive in a way that fits the ‘needs and realities’ of our country.
In-Nazzjon quotes PN Leader Adrian Delia who, at a political event, said that the government is not interested in families and has resigned any pretence of decency because it only wants to keep its power.
L-Orizzont reports that the validity of the yellow health card will be extended to 10 years. Minister Chris Fearne said that the card will now be renewed automatically.
In-Nazzjon says that the Health Minister declined to answer to questions about the number of foreign nationals working in the healthcare sector.
