These are the headlines from Malta’s newspaper front-pages.
The Malta Independent reveals that the Parliamentary Assembly for the Mediterranean will relocate its headquarters from Malta by January. Secretary General Sergio Pazzi, who is already operating from Bucharest, was reportedly involved in a series of clashes with the Foreign Ministry.
Malta Today follows the case of Charlene Farrugia whose remains have been found outside Valletta after 11 years since her sudden disappearance. The paper says investigators are still trying to establish the motive behind her assassination.
L-Orizzont also writes about the case and says that suspect John Paul Charles Woods had already attacked two other women before. Charlene Farrugia’s sister told the paper her family was worried by the 25-year-old’s relationship with Woods.
The Times reports that the Planning Authority board will tomorrow decide on a proposal for a new fuel station in Attard. The development, which would take up 3,000 square meters of agricultural land, has been recommended for refusal.
Malta Today carries the election of Boris Johnson to the leadership of the British Conservative Party, receiving 92,000 votes from the 160,000 cast by party members. Johnson will be announced UK Prime Minister succeeding Theresa May.
The Times says that the office of the data protection officer has initiated an investigation into allegations that patients’ information was leaked to funeral directors from Mater Dei Hospital. The hospital has not yet formally requested a probe.
The Malta Independent quotes report conclusions that Mount Carmel patients are satisfied by the level of dedication and care shown by nursing staff, despite the state of the hospital structure. The survey was conducted by doctors working at the hospital between January and June 2018.
In-Nazzjon says that Malta Dairy Products is to raise milk prices for consumers by up to 11 cents from this Monday. The company said in a statement that the change in price is necessary to adjust to higher costs incurred by producers.
L-Orizzont carries an interview with a young man who suffers solitude because of his bipolar condition. The paper says that, although struggling with physical and mental challenges, he has managed to hold down to a job.
In-Nazzjon announces early voting today ahead of the PN Extraordinary General Council which will be held on Saturday. In another story the paper says that NGOs will appeal the PA decision on Central Link after crowdfunding the necessary amount.
