Cyprus and Egypt signed an agreement to facilitate Egyptian employment

Cyprus and Egypt have signed a new bilateral agreement to facilitate the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus.

Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister Constantinos Kombos and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry formalized the agreement during Kombos’ visit to Egypt on June 4-5.

The agreement aims to streamline the process for Egyptian workers to travel to and work in Cyprus, aligning with the demands of the local labor market. This initiative will be implemented in a structured and controlled manner to ensure smooth operations.

The Cypriot Foreign Ministry highlighted on Tuesday that the deal was concluded in just four months, underscoring the mutual eagerness of both nations to collaborate for economic gain.

A joint committee, led by the Cypriot Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, will oversee the implementation of the agreement and recommend adjustments as necessary. The first year will serve as a trial period to assess the system’s effectiveness.

Additionally, the agreement includes provisions on social security, the transfer of benefits, and the confidentiality of shared information.
