Diver trying to rescue trapped boys in Thai cave dies

SkyNews: A diver has died trying to rescue 12 boys and a football coach who are trapped in a Thailand cave.

Samarn Gunan had been returning from inside the waterlogged cave when his oxygen supplies ran out, officials said.

The former Thai Navy Seal had been working as a volunteer during an overnight mission in which he had been delivering oxygen canisters, according to authorities.

“On his way back he lost consciousness,” Thai Seal commander Apakorn Yookongkaew said, adding that a friend had tried to help bring him out.
