Dubai’s Princess Haya seeks legal protection in London

Princess Haya bint Al-Hussein, the estranged wife of Dubai’s ruler, has requested a forced marriage protection order in a London court. The princess is locked in a legal row with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum over the welfare of their two children.

Princess Haya, the daughter of Jordan’s late King Hussein, reportedly fled Dubai earlier this year.

The UK protective orders can be used to help victims of forced marriages and domestic abuse. The forced marriage protective order applied to the children, while the non-molestation order related to herself, the court heard.

The sheikh’s lawyers applied for the children to be sent back to Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed, 70, married Princess Haya — believed to be his sixth wife — in 2004. The sheikh has more than 20 children by different wives.
