Editors’ Perspectives

The editorial of The Times entitled <<An unwarrented decision>> argues that The President and the Minister of Justice should put the decision to go ahead with granting warrants to two students who may be legally entitled to practice law, on hold. The editorial argues that the “Justice Minister rushed into deciding the warrants can be issued. Worse it is possible he gave the wrong advice to the President. That is a very grave mistake, clear resignation material. The President should be spared of such uncomfortable situations. If any advice has already been given it should be withdrawn fortwith.”

The editorial of L-Orizzont entitled <<Meta l-finanzi jkunu fis-sod…>> argues that the latest NSO statistics show that the financial situation of the country is in a very strong position. It reminds the readers of the tagline used by the previous Nationalist Party administration about strong finances. It states that today the situation goes beyond the tagline, and the country’s finances are in a strong position, for real.

The editorial of In-Nazzjon entitled <<Il-ħajja niċċelebrawha u mhux niffriżawha>> refers to the position taken in Parliament by the Nationalist Party in the vote on the Embryo Protection Act. The editorial argues that the Nationalist Party’s position has been consistent with its principles and in a unified way, the MPs of the PN voted against the changes which would allow Embryo Freezing.

The Malta Independent dedicates its leading article to the environment. <<Stop destroying our island>> argues that it cannot understand why the Planning Authority is still deciding on applications when parliament is so close to adopting a revised fuel stations policy, as what might be acceptable today might not be in the next week.
