English Premiership may continue in June as a solely TV event

The English Premiership may complete the season throughout June and July in what is being described by media reports as a solely TV event. Top clubs are in consensus in their desire to finish the season.

With a number of stadia being possibly unavailable due to shortage of staff and medical facilities, it is understood that the Football Association has offered the iconic Wembley Stadium to host up to four games a day to make this happen.

Failure to complete the football season would have several repercussions on the clubs, with a number of them having to pay back hefty sums of money to television networks and other providers if matches are not played. This would place most top clubs into financial disarray, with many missing on staggering amounts on matchday revenue.

London based Tottenham Hotspur, who inaugurated their new stadium just a year ago, are missing out on at least 6 million euro in revenue every home game that is not played. Despite commitments made publicly by the football players’ association, so far only West Ham and Southampton players have actually accepted wage cuts.

Football has been suspended since 13th March and any eventual return to play will depend on medical advice and governmental approval.
