EP offers its buildings to local communities in support of pandemic response

The European Parliament has offered its building as well as a fleet of cars and lorries to the Brussels regional authorities in its efforts to support the community to deal with the current coronavirus pandemic.

Around 100 service cars and lorries, including drivers, will be made available, explained Klaus Welle, its Secretary-General.

Jaume Duch, a spokesperson for the EP, explained that the building could be used as a hospital or a temporary residence for people requiring assistance, while drivers could help transport food or medicine.

Similar offers have been made in the two other cities where the EP operates from, namely Luxembourg and Strasbourg. With the majority of EU institutions’ employees currently teleworking, these buildings are for the large part empty.
