EU ministers to boycott Hungary’s foreign affairs Summit

European Union foreign affairs ministers are planning their own summit in August, opting not to attend Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s event in Budapest.

Hungary, currently holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, scheduled a foreign affairs summit in Budapest for August 28-29. This event would provide Orbán an opportunity to influence the bloc’s foreign policy agenda and spotlight his Foreign Affairs Minister Péter Szijjártó.

However, Orbán’s recent actions, including blocking aid for Ukraine and conducting uncoordinated visits to Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping, have led many EU foreign ministers to seek an alternative to what they view as another Orbán propaganda event.
