These are the main news from Malta’s portals.

Developers Association president Sandro Chetcuti is proposing a way to protect village cores without impinging on owners’ rights to build. In an interview with LovinMalta, Chetcuti says that a ‘Transfer of Gross Floor Area Ratio’ system would allowing owners to shift projects they are entitled to, to other urban areas.

The PN Parliamentary Group is meeting this evening for the first time since December 27th. The party’s spokesperson confirmed with Newsbook that the meeting was taking place. MaltaToday says that, during the session, leader Adrian Delia will seek to clear the air about concerns over his position.

A townhouse in Birkirkara will be converted by the government into accommodation space for Gozitans. The Times says that the residence will be open for students as well as relatives of patients treated in Malta.

The Malta Independent reports the death of ‘trailblazing’ cabaret artist Katya. The transgender icon was a pioneer in the Maltese scene during the 1970s and is mourned by prominent members of the LGBTQ+ community.

An eight-month baby is in critical condition suffering from a rare case of septicaemia, an infection in the bloodstream. One News says the child was rushed to hospital on Sunday afternoon with a high fever. This is the third case in two weeks of rare bacteria infecting young children, says Net News.

A driver who ran over a woman in a 2014 hit-and-run was handed a nine-month jail sentence and the suspension of his driving licence for two years. TVM says that Maximilian Ciantar was involved in another terrible accident in 2010, when he ran over 11-year-old twin at a pedestrian crossing.

The Finance Ministry has approved a direct order of €2.75 million for the “provision of support with implementation of the anti-money laundering directive and combatting financial terrorism strategy.’ The Shift News reveals that international consultants Oliver Wyman were contracted in July last year but was only announced in the government gazette on Friday.
