UPDATED: Twin suicide attacks in Tunisian capital

Twin suicide attacks targeting security forces struck Tunisia’s capital on Thursday, injuring at least nine people.

The first explosion was caused by a car bomb in one of the main avenues in Tunis. At least five people are reported to have been wounded – three police officers and two civilians.

Reports are indicating that the explosion took place next to a police vehicle on Habib Bourguiba Avenue, although another report said it was on nearby Charles de Gaulle street. This would be close to the French Embassy and also close to the Palmarium shopping centre which was targeted by a female suicide bomber in October.

The Tunisian Interior Ministry said that at the same time a second suicide bomber blew himself up near a police station in al-Qarjani district in the Tunisian capital, wounding four people. The building targeted is reported to house a unit of the Tunisian anti-terrorist unit.

Unconfirmed reports  are saying that there is at least one terrorist on the run who is being sought by the Tunisian security forces.
