Update: UNHCR said that at least 40 persons are feared dead or missing in shipwreck off Libya with an estimated 60 having been rescued, SkyNews reports.
“Terrible news coming in of potentially large loss of life in a shipwreck off the coast of Libya,” he tweeted, adding that details still remained “sketchy”.
“Around 60 people have been rescued and returned to shore. At least 40 people are estimated to be dead or missing.”
Earlier : Alarm Phone has reported a possible shipwreck in the Mediterranean, in view of a distress call it received on Monday night from persons who were on board a boat in the migratory route between Libya and Europe.
Alarm Phone said that it transpires there were circa 100 people on board the boat, but those on board were in panic and didn’t communicate the exact location.
