Finnish president gets new, €1.1m armoured car

The Finnish president’s new official state car, an armoured Audi saloon which cost around 1.1 million euros, was put into use on Thursday, according to a president’s office press release.

The new vehicle — an armoured Audi A8 L Security Quattro — replaced the previous presidential car, which had been in use for 12 years.

The office noted that the president’s official state vehicle is not linked to terms of office or an individual president, but rather a “long-term lifecycle acquisition in line with the operational and financial planning of the Office of the President of the Republic”.

The car was procured via a framework agreement that was put out to tender in the autumn of 2022. At the same time, the Prime Minister’s office also updated the PM’s official car.

About half of the vehicle’s price consisted of car tax, while the total also included payment for regular maintenance, safety inspections and training, the release said.
