Gatwick restarting operations

One of the UK’s biggest airports is finally restarting operations after over 32 hours of complete shutdown due to repeated drone sightings — which affected more than 110,000 passengers during the busiest travel period of the year.

British Airways said early Friday morning that London Gatwick was “back open and the majority of flights operating as scheduled.”

Gatwick has yet to issue an official announcement on opening, but the airport’s website listed a Norwegian flight scheduled for 5:45 a.m. local time as “last call,” and other gates are open and flights scheduled.

“We are currently working with airlines and air traffic controllers to introduce a limited number of flights over the coming hours,” the airport said.
