Genoa battered by violent storm, 7 meter waves recorded along Liguria coast

A wave of bad weather in the last few hours has hit the far west of Liguria, with intensity in the Sanremo area.

Along the coast waves of 4 meters were recorded with some even reaching about 7 meters.

Around Genoa, strong gale southerly winds with gusts exceeding 120 kilometres per hour were registered, with 145 kilometres winds being registered in Fontana Fresca.

The Italian Department of Civil Protection has issued a new weather alert with widespread rainfall expected, accompanied by lightning and strong gusts of wind over Umbria and Lazio. Alerts have also been issued for Abruzzo, Molise, Campania, Basilicata and Calabria.

Storm winds are also expected with stormy gusts over Campania, Basilicata and Puglia. The Department also assessed an orange alert for hydrogeological risk on Campania and on sectors of Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Liguria, Tuscany, Lazio, Umbria, Molise, Basilicata and Sardinia for tomorrow.
