German police in Berlin clamp down on foreign gangs

German authorities continued in their efforts to clamp down on Middle Eastern and Eastern European crime families in large cities as police launched raids in more than a dozen establishments in the areas of Neukölln and Moabit in the German capital Berlin.
Over 300 agents participated in the raids in Berlin and which is being considered as one of their largest crime raids ever against organized crime in the German capital.
Police are trying to address a problem that affects the country’s urban hubs where clans, are suspected of involvement in drug trafficking, forced prostitution and other illegal activity.
The raid comes in the wake of similar crackdowns that took place in Germany’s most populous state of North Rhine Westphalia.
Some 10 jewellery stores and travel agencies were inspected for tax irregularities, where authorities reported 17 violations. Six shisha bars and three pubs were also searched, where violations for tax fraud and illegal sale of water pipe tobacco were registered.
Authorities closed one of the shisha bars, for multiple violations, including the discovery of drugs at the scene which lead to a 29-year-old man’s arrest.
