Britain, Germany, France and Spain tell Maduro to hold elections within eight days or they will join Trump in recognising opponent’s claim to power

Update : Britain is to join the Trump administration in recognising Juan Guaido as the interim president of Venezuela if fresh elections are not announced within the next eight days, foreign minister Jeremy Hunt has said.
Earlier The three European countries have told Venezuela to call fresh elections or they’ll recognize opposition leader Juan Guiado as president. Nicolas Maduro is struggling to hold onto power after his disputed election win.
French president Emmanuel Macron and Spanish prime minister Pedro Sanchez have said they are ready to recognise Juan Guaido as president of Venezuela if elections were not called in the coming week.
“Unless elections are announced within eight days, we will be ready to recognise @jguaido as ‘President in charge’ of Venezuela in order to trigger a political process,” said Mr Macron on his Twitter feed.
German Government spokeswoman Martina Fietz said on Twitter that Berlin was ready to recognize opposition leader Juan Guiado as acting president unless a new vote is called in the next week.
Meanwhile Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó has rejected an offer of talks from President Nicolás Maduro amid an ongoing power struggle between the two.
