Germany to build hospital for coronavirus patients

As the number of patients infected with coronavirus in Germany topped 7,500 late Tuesday evening, the German Government has announced the creation of a new hospital completely dedicated the new virus. The facility will be set up in the popular trade fair grounds in the area known as Berlin Messe, and is expected to accommodate up to a thousand individuals.

The German armed forces will be assisting in the construction but no further details, including the expected competition, have been provided. The hospital, which has been approved by Senate, will be focused on emergency respiratory patients. However, the beds will only be used once other resources are all filled up.

In parallel, other hospitals in the city have begun to postpone other scheduled surgeries and clear bed space to meet the demand for more bed space by coronavirus-stricken patients. The number of cases has shot up exponentially since the beginning of the week with over 1,500 cases reported since Monday. 500 persons are currently in hospital – while twenty have lost their life.
