Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Sunday Times reports on a document by the Commissioner for Standards in Public Life warning that government jobs offered to MPs are ‘fundamentally wrong’ and diminish the duty of parliament to scrutinise government.

The Standards Commissioner George Hyzler concludes that the practice dilutes Parliament’s role of scrutinising the government and goes against the Code of Ethics of Public Employees and Board Members and the underlying principles of the Constitution.

In another story, The Sunday Times reveals that Satabank has been handed a record €3 million fine for breaching anti-money laundering regulations. A joint inspection by the financial services authority and the FIAU last year condemned weak systems applied by the bank.
