The Times reveals that the government is ready to lift restrictions imposed on the Sliema Fortina land, allowing developers to invest in commercial and residential projects. The site was originally restricted to tourism-related facilities.
The report adds “Negotiations between the Lands Authority and the hotel owners, the Zammit Tabona family, it was agreed the lifting of these restrictions was to be valued at €8.1 million at current market prices. This valuation followed reports submitted by government architects. However, instead of paying the agreed sum all at once, as would normally be the case, the government has agreed to take a payment of just €1 million upon the signing of the contract. The rest – more than €7 million – will be paid interest free at the end of a 10-year period from when the deed is signed.” Read the whole story here
The Times says that a petition demanding the installation of air conditioners in state schools has garnered over 5,000 signatures. Teachers and parents say that students are sweltering by 10:00 am, comparing classrooms to saunas. You can read whole story here.
