Greece calls for overhaul of importation of third-country workers

The Greek migration and asylum minister announced a new institutional framework for legal immigration to drastically reduce times, shorten visa issuance procedures and extend the duration of the residence permit in special cases so as to fill in a timely manner the 100,000 job vacancies in Greece.

Given the serious shortage of workers and skills in critical sectors, Nikos Panagiotopoulos admitted at an event by the American College of Greece there is great room for improvement in the framework for importing workers from third countries, expressing the belief that this way legal immigration may prevail over the illegal one.Unmute
