FRANKFURT, March 2 (Reuters) – German container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd on Thursday showed industry forecasts pointing to rising supply in the global fleet over the next two years as previously placed orders for vessels are coming through.
Slides for an analyst call accompanying the earnings release for 2022 showed that the global order book in 2023 is forecast at 7.2 million twenty foot equivalent units (TEU), representing 28% of the world fleet, up from 7.1 million 2022 when it constituted 27%.
Scheduled vessel deliveries (gross additions) in 2023 are seen at 2.5 million TEU in 2023 and at 4.0 million in 2024 after deliveries in 2022 amounted to 1.0 million.
