Harmonised EU digital tax plans shelved

EU governments have abandoned hopes of agreeing a European digital services tax on internet giants by next month after talks were beset by opposition from member states led by the Nordics.

The Financial Times report that in a meeting of the EU finance ministers governments including Sweden, Denmark and Ireland said they remained firmly opposed to Europe imposing a revenue-based tax on internet groups, arguing that it would harm their economic competitiveness.
