Head of Haftar’s military intelligence service kidnapped

The Libya Observer reports that Ramadan Albarasi, the head of Khalifa Haftar’s military intelligence, was kidnapped.

The Libya Observer quotes sources from the city of Al-Bayda east of Libya that confirmed the kidnapping of Albarasi, on July 30, from his home in Benghazi.

The sources added that there has been no information about his fate nor the reason for his disappearance so far, and no official reports were released regarding the results of the investigation of the incident.

The kidnapping was likely to be carried out by Haftar’s loyalists, against the background of Albarasi’s refusal to appear for questioning following the defeat of Haftar’s forces in Gharyan city by the Libyan Army, according to the same source.

In the meantime, embassies of the UK, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Holland, and the European Union’s delegation to Libya urged in a joint statement on Tuesday for the release of the kidnapped member of the House of Representatives Siham Sirgiwa, citing grave concerns about her whereabouts.

The statement called on the relevant authorities to probe the kidnapping and to provide details about her whereabouts, saying they are following reports about the forced disappearances and illegal arrests in Libya, which violate international humanitarian law and UN human rights laws.
