Two die as helicopter crashes in Rome’s Tiber river

 

UPDATE:  The bodies of the two victims who were aboard the helicopter crashed on Friday in the Tiber, in the Nazzano Romano area were recovered by the rescue team carrying the rescue and search operation. The pilot and the passenger were still connected to the seats of the aircraft, which was found about 6 meters deep in the river bed.

Earlier: 

A search and rescue operation is underway, after a helicopter crashed into the Tiber outside Rome on Friday.

Eye witnesses said it snagged overhead power lines and then crashed, sinking to the bottom of the river.

The aircraft’s location identified with the depth sounder on the bottom of the river by the divers of the firefighters.

Search for survivors is still underway
