Homophobic protester dressed as Pete Buttigieg whips Jesus on the cross at political rally while ‘devil’ cheers him

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has already encountered a lot of prejudice and homophobia since announcing his intention to run in 2020 on Sunday.

However, on Thursday, he encountered possibly the strangest protest against him to date as a man dressed as the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana, whipped another man dressed as Jesus as the devil stood by cheering him on.

Yes, that is something that actually happened at a political rally in 2019 and it was captured by journalist Marcus Di Paolo just before Buttigieg began his speech in Marshalltown, Iowa.

The person dressed as the devil can be heard shouting:

Beat him Peter, beat him. I hate this guy.

More blood, Peter. Every vote is a lash on the back of Christ

It has been reported that the protestors represented a group called Society for Truth and Justice who have stage similar stunts in the past. Although this is possibly the most bizarre protest that Buttigieg has seen on the campaign trail, it is far from the first homophobic protest he has seen.
