Hong Kong leader promises dialogue to find a way out

Hong Kong’s leader has said she is setting up a “communication platform” to resolve differences in the city after months of anti-government protests.

Hong Kong Free Press reportst that Chief Executive Carrie Lam on Tuesday promised to set up a platform for dialogue to “find a way out” for Hong Kong, adding that the existing study under the police complaints watchdog will expand its scope.

Chief executive Carrie Lam also said the city’s police watchdog will carry out a fact-finding study of the protests and related incidents as it looks into 174 complaints about police behaviour.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters rallied peacefully in the Chinese-ruled city in torrential rain on Sunday in the eleventh week of what have been often violent demonstrations.

“I have explained and elaborated on two important areas of work that we are doing,” Mrs Lam told reporters before the weekly Executive Council meeting.
