Iberia ground handling staff on strike at Barcelona-El Prat Airport

A view of several Spanish airline Vueling’s planes are seen parked during the second day of the strike called by Spanish Iberia ground handling staff at Barcelona-El Prat Airport, El Prat de Llobregat, outside Barcelona, north-eastern Spain.

Some 18,000 passengers will be affected by a strike and some 112 Spanish airways Vueling’s flights have had to be cancelled during the weekend.

The ground staff strike coincides with the airport’s security personnel indefinite strike.

Spain’s largest airline, Vueling, has cancelled 112 flights scheduled for Saturday and Sunday because of a strike by ground staff at Barcelona’s El Prat airport.

Earlier this month, the ground crew for International Airlines Group’s  Iberia airline called strikes on Aug. 24-25 and then on Aug. 30-31.

Iberia cancelled six flights for this coming Saturday to or from Barcelona and another six for Sunday, an airline spokesperson said.

Combining both Vueling, which is also owned by IAG, and Iberia, 124 flights have been cancelled in Barcelona for this coming weekend.
