Number of deaths in Italy go up while infections go down

The number of new coronavirus infections fell for the third straight day Tuesday to 3,612, compared to 3,780 Monday and 3,957 Sunday, but the number of victims rose again, to 743 in a single day compared to 601 yesterday and 651 on Sunday, Emergency Commissioner and Civil Protection Chief Angelo Borrelli said Tuesday.

Italy registered a record increase of 793 COVID-19 deaths on Saturday. The Italian coronavirus death toll is now 6,820. Borrelli said 54,030 people in Italy are currently infected with the coronavirus.

He said 8,326 people have recovered from the coronavirus in Italy, 894 more than yesterday. The daily increase in the number of recovered on Monday had been 408.

The total number of people to have been infected in Italy, including the deceased and those who have recovered, has now reached 69,176.
