Data could be transmitted a thousand times faster than current internet cables after a major breakthrough, scientists have said.
The Independent (UK) reports that the new research uses terahertz quantum cascade lasers that could send data around the world at speeds unimaginable using current technology.
The lasers could be used to vastly speed up data communications, according to the researchers behind the study, which is published today in the journal Nature Communications.
