Iranian President Raisi and FM Involved in Helicopter Accident

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian were involved in a helicopter accident in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, reportedly caused by adverse weather conditions according to Iranian state TV. The Iranian Red Crescent has mobilized 40 separate teams to assist, and rescue teams are nearing the crash site. Additionally, the Iraqi government has directed relevant bodies to aid in the search.
Raisi and his companions were returning from Iran’s border with Azerbaijan, where they had participated in the inauguration of a collaborative dam project with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, signifying improved relations between the two countries. Multiple rescue teams and drones have been dispatched to the area of the incident.
Accompanying Ebrahim Raisi were Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to East Azerbaijan, as reported by state media.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei expressed his concern during a meeting with families of IRGC personnel, stating, “We hope that God returns the honourable president and his companions to the arms of the nation. All must pray for the health of this group of civil servants. The Iranian nation must not be concerned or worried; there will be no disruption in the country’s operations.”
