ISIS announces the killing of an Italian citizen

ISIS announced that it killed an Italian citizen identified as 33 year Lorenzo Orsetti from Florence.

Initial information indicates that Orsetti had left Italy to join Kurdish forces fighting against ISIS in Syria. According to the information issued by ISIS, he was killed in the latest fighting in Baghuz, the last bastion of the ISIS forces in Syria and the scene of heavy fighting in recent days.

Italian security forces confirmed the report and said that Orsetti was fighting with the Kurdish YPG militia, who are linked to the Turkish PKK. Orsetti is said to have been killed in a fire fight that ensued after an ambush by the jihadis.

Orsetti is the second Italian to be killed fighting amongst the Kurdish forces. On the 7 December, the death of 50 year old Giovanni Francesco Asperti, who as well had joined the Kurdish forces in Syria fighting ISIS.
